The genre of music which we have decided to focus on for our music video is 'Rock'. Within this genre there are many sub-genres and nowadays it is common for a band/artist to fit into more than one of these styles of music; it is difficult to categorise artsits as their music can combine a range of genres, therefore many modern rock music videos do not fit with the stereotypes of rock (such as dark colours). Below is a mind map of some of the most common sub-genres of rock music:
The sub-genre which we have chosen to create a video for is 'Alternative/Indie Rock'. I believe that by focusing on one particular aspect of rock music we will be able to target a certain audience and do detailed research about conventions of this sub-genre; therefore allowing us to create a video which uses and subverts specific conventions in order to make it appealing for the audience.

Conventions of Pop music videos
Below is a mind map, which I made on 'bubbl.us', about the conventions of pop music videos. Although I haven't decided which genre of music I would like to focus on yet, I chose to look at pop music in order to show the stereotypes which the genre often conforms to.

Chosen Brief
The brief which I have chosen to base my coursework on this year is...
A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video together with two of the following three options:
- a website homepage for the artist
- a cover for its release on CD
- a magazine advertisement for the CD
I feel that this is most suitable for me because I like listening to music in my free time and feel that this project will be most interesting and enjoyable.
